  • Driving up Buck Road, considered to be one of the two most bucolic roads in Stone Ridge, on an autumn evening, is calming and joyful. We pass the old horse farm flanking both sides, and anchored by the storied stone house and barn, and feel transported to a gentler time. The pace slows, the air is crisp and sweet, the foliage so beautiful, the anticipation of a fire, a cup of tea, a glass of wine, calls. The house is a home; it has been loved and cared for; it has celebrated birthdays and holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, BBQ’s and movie nights, and been an enormous comfort in more challenging times, as wel

  • The people of Stone Ridge, from old timers to new transplants, and all in between, work in concert for the good of our community. We are Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, we subscribe to varying lifestyles but though we are different, we are one.

  • ADAMS in Kingston is superb. Their first-rate fresh fish and meats department, gorgeous fruits and vegetables, wide variety of cheeses from around the world, that delicious bakery…which we may have indulged in.

  • Bread Alone in Woodstock, then walk around the village, stop in at The Golden Notebook, also a great Indie bookstore.

Our favorite place for tea is Harney & Sons tea shop in Millerton. It’s a beautiful drive there and the tea shop serves sandwiches, scones, sweets and more. Also for purchase, they offer their tea, teapots, cups and mugs. Basically tea nirvana.

  • We love Davenport Farms in Stone Ridge; their bumble berry pie is legendary.

CSA wise, we subscribe to Tributary Farm in High Falls.

  • We love to eat in on Friday nights after the long work week.  We grill salmon and prepare Turkish rice (the recipe is a family secret) and a big salad from our CSA, crusty bread from The Kingston Bread & Bar (the best sourdough outside of San Francisco), and we look out the kitchen window and take in the pond, the land, the trees, the open sky, and sometimes a visiting heron.

However, if easy pick up is our choice, The Roost.

  • Stone Ridge Orchard in Stone Ridge.

  • Walking at the Ashokan Reservoir or Rail Trail. The farmers market in Kingston, or lunch and bopping about Rhinebeck.

At home: reading, playing with our puppy, relaxing with friends.

  • Ollie’s in High Falls for pizza and meatballs that will make you cry. YUMALA!
